manpurseOkay, if you haven’t read Jug Sauce Elite, please do so.

Now then. I thought it might be fun to invite people to play along. Just draw an anagrammed superhero (or supervillain) along the lines of the JSE, and mail the picture or the URL to jugsauce@lungfish.com, and I’ll post it here, along with a link to your site if you provide it. If you prefer, I can post a thumbnail and a link to the original if you’d rather have the artwork on your site or DeviantArt or whatnot.

Bantam is a Marvel character; that’s actually pretty much what he looks like (or looked like; he got killed in the Civil War event).

I no can draw, but I noticed you left out Martian Manhunter from your League lineup. Run that through an anagrammer! http://wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=martian+manhunter&t=1000

Had you considered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managua for aquaman? I submit this as an entry, using the associated map from wikipedia as the picture. Yeah, it’s the lazy way out…

Will you accept Hero Machine generated art or is this only for the artistes?

I’m sure if you just write your idea in here and somebody draws it, they’ll give you credit for the idea.

Marvel Comics hasn’t been the same since the day A Ceramic Pinata was shot on the courthouse steps.

I still hold out some hope for their team-up book, Three Vegans, though.

(Sorry, I can’t draw, you’ll have to settle for text. :)

For Spiderman: Armed Nips (“Each one holds a gun!”)

I refuse to draw this, though.

    Also on the Marvel side:

An ill-fated outer-space test flight granted them powers beyond those of mortal men. Separately, they are The Night, Hutt Ranch Home, Inhibit Elves Woman, and Craftiest Mantis. But together, they are known as… The Castoff Nutria.

  • Lore said:

First, let’s not just post lists of anagrammed names. I think that would get too long too quickly. Once the artwork dies down, though, I’d be happy to open up the thread to just riffing names.

Secondly, you can use whatever art tool works for you, including Hero Machine, but try to get some sort of joke into the drawing. It would be sad if Maniac Tapir Ace was just a Hero Machine character with “M” on the chest.

Thirdy, “Managua” isn’t technically an anagram of “Aquaman.”

    Thanks!

Can someone help me with Degas Art Man and Maniac Tapir Ace? I’m dying here.

  • Jade said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 9:34 am)

@tomemos, Maniac Tapir Ace is an anagram of 2 words. The first anagrammed word is almost all of the first original word. (The “Three Vegans” group of which he is a leader is itself an anagram, if that helps.) I’m still stuck on Degas Art Man, though.

  • Jade said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 9:36 am)

Oh, and Lore, if George Allen were doing the anagramming, then I’m sure that Aquaman would become Maquana.

  • Jemaleddin said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 9:45 am)

The “Man” in “Degas Art Man” isn’t in the anagram, if that helps.

  • Jemaleddin said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 9:50 am)

Also, Maniac Tapir Ace isn’t CURRENTLY in the Three Vegans.

  • tomemos said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 9:56 am)

Of course! Thanks, Jade. That’s what I get for being less versed in Marvel.

  • Dennis said:

Would “Mr. Kltpzyxm” be a valid entry? I mean, I guess he’d be pretty much the same, only he could have, like, different stuff in his pockets.

  • Benjamin Dionysus said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 10:23 am)

Ok, I need more of a hint about Degas Art–I’ve no clue whatsoever!

  • Lore said:

Wow – I didn’t realize Degas Art Man was obscure enough to stump so many people. I even put him in his original costume (plus tutu).

Oh, Maniac Tapir Ace. Of course. Took me a few minutes, and “Cervical Moms” definitely helped.

Still haven’t figured out “Ranch Mouth” yet.

  • Kjetil L. said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 12:39 pm)

Ranch Mouth, or The Ranch Mouth as he is perhaps better known, is one of the original members of the Unfit Fat Orcas – another Cervical Moms publication ;-)

Well, I just cheated with the Internet Anagram link given by Steve C., and am duly smacking my forehead now.

  • Pom Rania said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 pm)

I also cheated with the Internet Anagram link; seriously, how could I have MISSED that Ranch Mouth?! After that, though, I realized what Maniac Tapir Ace was, and I prefer it to the original. I only knew Degas Arts Man from his role in 52.

  • The Sellout said:
    (On February 3rd, 2009 at 6:51 pm)

Steve C, an anagram for Martian Manhunter is “Trannie Man-Ram Hut,” but I’m sure as hell not drawing that!

O Lorar, Champion of the Frozen Wastes, this thread is awesome.

I wonder if Jesse Janowiak would be willing to release another version (without the overlapping text) of the amazing Maniac Tapir Ace under a suitable CC license? I just love that image!

  • Lance said:
    (On February 4th, 2009 at 6:11 am)

I’m thinking I should have submitted The Fanatic for Rust, but two is enough.

The Sellout: “Inner Mahatma Runt” is probably better, plus you don’t have to hate yourself for drawing it.

Anyone else stumped by Hippos Hammering Wrong Terry? I don’t get that one at all…

  • Dale G said:
    (On February 9th, 2009 at 11:51 am)

The fact that there are 5 Hippos, and the specific color each one is wearing, are big clues. Also, the anagram is of a team name, not an individual superhero name.

  • zwit said:
    (On February 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm)

    Ah! Now I get it.

Further hint: they’re not from comics.

  • rikchik said:
    (On February 9th, 2009 at 12:41 pm)

Glad people were able to figure the Hippos out – I wanted to get some non-standard superheroes included. (For those who don’t recognize him, the Terry they are hammering is Terry Gilliam.)
