400 Someodd Bad Comics
5:20 pm, October 8, 2007

Two guys I did not know about until just today are each publishing 200 bad comics on some sort of Internet double dog dare sort of a thing, and I have to admit I’m enjoying them.

A guy named Anthony is doing some.

A guy named KC is doing some.

And then a guy I have heard of named Mike is doing some, but he hasn’t done nearly as many yet.

Nedroid (your “Anthony”) is a favorite over at Pointless Waste of Time. Some great articles have appeared on PWOT, and it’s worth checking out.

They failed. Number 22 at Nedroid was rather good, actually.

Is it weird that I find these funnier than most webcomics that are actually trying? Or, for that matter, most comics in the newspaper?

I don’t think so, I feel much the same way. I wonder how much presentation affects that, though. Seems to me a lot of the humor comes from their desperate flailings as much as the strips themselves. Would it have the same effect if instead of “200 Bad Comics” it was called “Nedroid Comix” and presented daily instead of all at once?

If you like those you’ll probably like Super-Fun-Pak Comix editions of Tom the Dancing Bug.

It’s good to see word of Nedroid spread.

Nedroid’s #11 (ghost stories) is damn good. Astonishingly, I can’t recall seeing the “ghost can’t go through wall” gag done before. (I’m sure someone will now cite 209 references going back to ancient Sumeria.)

I’ve seen and enjoyed similar comics presented as a daily strip. In all cases they used “bad art” which is actually just simply-drawn good art, and non-sequitur punchlines. The original “Hyper Death Babies” and “Super Mega Comics” are both a good read.

I would read a daily version Nedroid’s “Bad” comics in a second.

Rubrick, I don’t know about ancient Sumeria, but here’s one from Achewood in 2005: http://achewood.com/index.php?date=04292005

Nedroid’s Bad Wecomics are some of my faves. I don’t know if they’d make it as published works, but there’s a lot of humor to be found in spur-of-the-moment jokes. I think he only had 7 days to do all of them.

Also, I can’t remember which number it was, but the strip with the hugging chickens makes me laugh to no end.

For more fun in intentionally bad comics – enjoys Left Handed Toons (by right handed people).
