Still a bunch of little glitches, including audio editing and a couple jokes I’d do differently if I was going to do it over again, but there comes a point where I just have to chalk it up to experience and move on, or else the learning curve will loop around my neck and tie itself into a noose.
There were many more problems with the audio than the final output would suggest, mostly due to microphone placement. I’m going to pick up a more sensitive mic before I do the next one of these.

HAHA. My day is better for having watched that. Thank youn
I noticed that the iMac joke got updated to an iPod Shuffle joke. Were there any other changes that I missed?
A minor change at the end: instead of asking if you know the Japanese call tidal waves tsunami, he just states that they do. This is because now everyone knows the word tsunami, thanks to the tsunami.
Y’know, that’s been among my favorite Ratings since forever, and I read it at least three times a year. I didn’t think I’d find it funny in video version, but boy was I wrong. I guess some things are just timeless. Thanks, Lore.
My favorite one got picked. Frabjous day. Up until the “Let me show you my pokemans” picture was released, “The Price Am Wrong” was my favorite thing ever put up on the internets.
If I may provide you with a tiny bit of criticism, hang a sheet or something behind you. It would provide a nice neutral background and add to the sense of professionalism.
You’re a strange man, but that’s a good thing. I think. At first I thought this video had touched me on the Bad Place of my soul, but it turns out that was just the extra garlic at lunchtime.
Lore, will you please do Scooby-Doo Characters in video? I want to see (and hear) Scrappy get that F he so richly deserves. Apologies if this is in the wrong comments thread.
I’m glad you didn’t use part of that stupid “part of this stupid world” song again.
Keep up the good work of not using that!
I think the pacing is a bit too intense for me at times, because English isn’t my first language. But I don’t think that’ll trouble me once you get the audio sorted out otherwise. Summing up in two words: loved it!
you know Gorilla Grodd is a telepathic supergorilla, yes? There’s a lot of nasty shit you can do with telepathy if you’re totally amoral. Even if you don’t find humans the least bit sexually attractive.
I know that a lot of the characters have different incarnations. I don’t remember that the Legion of Doom Grodd ever used telepathy. Now you’ve got me wondering.
Excellent video, but I’d second the call for something in the background on the vanity shots.
Did a little research, and apparently my memories have not, in this case, been fucking with me. While there are various telepathic and mind-control devices trotted out by the Legion in a number of episodes, Grodd doesn’t exhibit telepathy by himself, nor does he have any sort of personal telepathic enhancement. He’s supposedly super-intelligent, but on the Superfriends nobody really acts super-intelligent, or even plain old regular intelligent.
Haha, good point. I always noticed that the super-genius cartoon characters got credit for inventing all the crazy weapons and computers, but that was about the only evidence of their fiendish intelligence.
Hah! Your delivery is fantastic on these. I’ve always loved the written-down Ratings, but these are even better. Keep ‘em coming!
About Luthor inventing Rogaine instead of half-assed Kryptonite delivery stystems. Surely you know that his genius only applies to useless inventions. He’s like an idiot savant that way. The man can barely work a telephone unless doing so directly relates to a plot against Superman.
Ah, some more research indicates that Grodd was only ever a telepath (and a telekinetic) in the comics; I suppose the show’s producers decided that would make him too powerful.
Maybe he’s just super-intelligent for a gorilla?
Lore: This was always a good rating. I really wish you’d stuck to the iMac joke rather than the iPod joke, but I can see why you felt compelled to update it a bit. And I did indeed catch a few of the glitches. Don’t let that discourage you, though, these are still immensely enjoyable.
Cortjstr: Brilliant.
I’m surprised how much the iMac->shuffle update makes the joke seem new again. Maybe it’s the illustration.
In the vein of the iMac –> iPod update, I kind of would have expected the Power Puff reference updated. Then again, I’m not really sure what cartoon these days may properly convey the “sure it looks like it targets young kids, especially girls, but it also has plenty of action” message so well.
Also, nice little reference with the 2F17 at the start. I figured it was related to something and will admit that it took google to find it, but that made it very clear.
Awesome. Lore, you have a great voice for animations and voiceovers. Seriously, I think you fill the Jean Shepherd niche.
Super heroes/villains are just so ripe for parody – I can’t get enough of it. FYI, this site: http://seanbaby.com/super.htm has some pretty funny stuff from the old Super Friends cartoons.
oops – that should be “you _could_ fill”
There is some sort of rule, akin to the “if you see a man cleaning a gun in Act 1″ rule for the theatre, that if you see a gorilla in comics, it must be a super-intelligent gorilla.
The excellent question of whether they mean “super-intelligent given that they started as a gorilla” is never addressed.
If there’s further voting, can we get “Aspects of Televised Football”? To see the Magic Pencils bit animated, I’d wet my pants. Or someone else’s.
The Wonder Woman bit really made my day. And boy did my day need to get made! Thanks, Lore :)
Just so you know, your work on the audio really paid off, because there were no problems that leaped at me like last time. Good jorb!
This is awesome. Please make a podcast out of these!
