Let's Do It. Let's Fall in Love.

Things are afoot. Big things, exciting things. Big, exciting things. Big, exciting things I can't talk about. The immediate effect, however, is that my attempted vacation from thinking about my future -- my legacy -- is over like Battle Scallop.

So this is a good a time as any to announce that I will be continuing Bad Gods after the preview phase. In fact, I'm switching it from a MWF update schedule to a MW update schedule effective immediately, so that I still have a little bit of backlog.

I'm also going to include more features. First up will be embedding code, similar to YouTube. Also planned is a video Podcast so you can download them to your favorite portable video viewing device and make your train ride fifteen seconds shorter.

If there's anything in particular you'd like to see, feel free to post or mail. I am open to suggestions like the finest of camwhores.

Not really a suggestion for the new stuff, but a general Bad Gods observation: the ones that are essentially just stills (such as today's) I find unsatisfying. I think the strongest/funniest so far have been hangman, Vader, and beggars, each of which has a real (though very short) narrative arc.

Thanks for the feedback. It's so rare to get criticism that isn't just "HEY YOU MADE FUN OF SOMETHING I LIKE STOP IT!" that it actually feels very positive that someone has enough interest in what I'm doing to spend a bit of time thinking about it.

Of course, we'll see how long that feeling lasts. For what it's worth, the logs agree with you, people seem to link to those three more than the others.

Having said that, expect to see a lot of variety in my approach over the next few weeks or months. That little box is very compelling to me right now, and I'm not yet ready settle down into one or two or three ways to fill it.

It seems odd that this truly makes a difference in my enjoyment of what Bad Gods presents, but at the same time, it may just be a more detailed explanation for the above comment. The entries I've liked the most are those which are original. Many of the clips which fall into "stills with music" category feature CC pictures and music that you've not altered, but merely placed together. Still funny, but to me, not as funny as the times when you add a more personal touch. Although it's nice to have you direct me to them, I can see these pictures and hear these songs without Bad Gods. There is nothing quite like the Vader clip that I've seen elsewhere. The REM bit was hilarious because of your short audio segment coupled with an image that sort of brings everything together. It was original and it was hilarious. As for today's, it was a borrowed image and sound, but the tiny addition of Easter Eggs gave it some originality. I love limits of Bad Gods. I'm a fan of limitations like that in Dinosaur Comics. I think it's really cool to see the way that a person works when given, in your case, nothing but a small box and maybe five seconds. At the same time, you've already established that you're not as limited as the Dinosaurs, so don't be afraid to evolve. Just a few months ago I stumbled upon the incredible blog of Ren & Stimpy creator John K. He spends lots of time comparing the natural changes made in older cartoons over time as opposed to the stagnance and fear of alteration in modern shows. Check it out: http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/

All I'm saying with that is embrace the restrictions you've given yourself (keep clips short and such), but don't be afraid to let Bad Gods change.

I'm...not quite sure I understand. Today's was originally just a picture of a plain old regular gas pump, I not only added the sounds but changed the artwork. I'm not doing the YTMND thing where I find a joke somewhere else and transplant it.

Personally, my favorite was the recent Feminist Bookstore one.

Well, after reading the above, i just went back through and found easter eggs. YAY! No clue previously that they were there, so now I'm going to be searching the Gods of Brattish intent as much as the SBEmails. Um, I have to admit, this seems like a smaller version of Bandwidth theatre, which is not a bad thing. I've been craving more video humor since they stopped coming. (Tangent- my favorite was "you didn't hold the gun sideways")

Anyway, just had to say that I appreciate your sense of humor, and can't wait to see more.

As for suggestions, you could go with the flying spaghetti monster, D&D, other rpg's, batman, n00bs and pwners, google earth, livejournal, zombies, jesus, zombie-jesus, robot jesus, random objects out of context, like a car in a pool? i dunno.

Just do what you do. It's usually good to me and my friends.

High Praise indeed, huh?

Me too, my favorite so far is the feminist bookstore. But I like the static picture ones just fine--"Compensating Magazine" and KSTD are wonderful.

Oh, jeez, now I feel dumb. Really dumb. I thought that
"background picture by ReneS

meant ReneS had altered the picture and you simply stuck in a pre-made joke and added music. It didn't really seem lik your style and now I see that 5 seconds spent visiting the site of origin would've gone WAY quicker than writing that mess.
I'm glad you cleared this up for me. Now I can finally enjoy Bad Gods.
In other news, I've given it some thought and the embed option was pretty brilliant.

Judging from the language, I'd say Lore is either getting married, or is expecting a Lorespawn. That's pure speculation, though - my crystal ball is in the shop right now.

Good heavens, no. It's a professional matter.

And Tougi, I'll give some thought to rewording to avoid confusion. Thanks for the feedback.

I also assumed marriage or somesuch at first.

Honestly I liked End of the Road better before the animation kicked in. I felt like it had that classic comedy/horror rule of showing a setup, then letting the audience imagine the payoff.

Just to chime in: I've been enjoying Bad Gods, too. It's the WarioWare of flam!

In my opinion, the experimentation is part of what makes Bad Gods funny. Part of the "freshness" is not knowing what structure the joke will have, unlike the ratings, whoose formula works in that context. So please don't settle down into one or two or three ways to fill that little box. Even if some themes have already emerged, I think limiting yourself from the almost stream of conciousness that I have seen so far would only detract from an integral part of Bad Gods.

Haha, yeah, you might want to do that ... I thought you were getting married, too.
But then again, I'm young, female, single, and it's June, the month when single chicks are bombarded with not-so-subliminal messages that we should be getting married NOW (!!!).

Just to be contrary I automatically assumed it was a professional thing. Either because of the 'can't talk about it' (which i tend to associate with NDA and other business related things more than personal announcements) or because I see Lore (and most people online) as nothing more than slaves that toil for my perpetual amusement with no lives of their own.

Odd coincidence for me that you happen to make reference to Cole Porter mere hours after I purchased and listened to my first album of Porter songs. I'll expect to encounter references to Porter everywhere for the next week now.

My favorite Bad Gods so far has been hangman. I find it kind of elegant. I like how it sort of works on a couple of levels--first you think the hanged man is calling the player an asshole for being so dumb, then you realize he's shouting the answer. It really packs a lot in for such a brief little animation. And the choice of music suits it perfectly too.
