New Alt Text

Star Wars DVD Sets of Tomorrow

Comments

I hope to someday purchase the 3-DVD set of your alt.text bylines. "Punch bowl"-- very nice.

great article... Lucas is so cruel, forcing people to pay for the special-edition and the original DVDs.

Why is he doing this? My personal theory is that his basement has a portal to an evil dimension, and the only way he can keep it closed is by feeding it money. Hence, the re-re-releases.

If I unfocus my eyes, your hair in the alt.text byline icon looks exactly like Darth Vader's helmet.

Is the title "alt text" suppose to reference the alt.whatever naming convention of newsgroups, or the explanatory text added to an image tag in HTML? Or both?

I want to see an edition of Return of the Jedi that has the split-second shot of the face of the speeder-bike rider whose helmet Luke knocks off.

That's what they showed in the movies, and on TV promo-clips for the movie.

It didn't make it to the video disk; I watched the scene over and over again at a trade show.

your articles make me laugh so f*cking hard ... thanks!!

More than likely both. If you look at the source of any HTML Lore has done, you'll find that it always has alternate text in the images, even if it's just an asterisk. On slumbering, we have "Slumbering Lungfish..." on the title banner, "*" on the "yes we're open", "creative commons license" on the (cc) image, and all the images in the posts have their filenames as alt text.

Well, I had the HTML thing in mind when I came up with it. The idea is that this, being a humor column, is an alternative to the serious reporting in most of the rest of Wired News. That's why I call it "Alt Text" instead of "alt.text".

I think my life would be just a little bit easier if I had called it "A Humor Column Which is Not Serious So Keep That in Mind Before Posting Comments or Sending Me E-Mail."

I don't think even that title would have kept the morons off your back. They are, after all, morons. Just write a column about the dumbest/angriest responses you get (a la Dave Barry) and thank them for giving you fodder.

Maybe they could give you a Satire header like Salon used to use. (Or might still; I haven't been in a while)

How about a custom edition? In this version we could chose to keep the windows on cloud city in Empire, but also delete the CGI muppet-on-crack in Jabba's palace. Then we could also replace Hayden Christensen or Sebastian Shaw as the ghost of Anakin Skywalker with anyone we wanted. I would pick the guy who played Dak.

Eh, mocking the angry emails doesn't seem like Lore's style. Then again, I'm not Lore, so I don't wanna speak for him.

Christ, they email you too?

Are there levels of dumb we don't get to see?
